A Must See: Hope for Haiti Now Telethon

Tonight you need to be at home! Or, I’ll let you slide if you are attending a Haiti fundraiser. Beginning at 8pm EST (7pm CST) MTV’s “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” will broadcast across a number of networks, including MTV. There will be over 100 celebrities and influencers broadcasting live all over the globe, from LA to NY to London to Haiti, to help raise money for the reconstruction of Haiti.

Performers include Wyclef Jean, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Kid Rock, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, Justin Timberlake and tons more. I’m super excited because this concert will be one of a kind. Some artists will perform songs that have never been heard before, while we we also see collaborations from artists we never thought we would see on the same stage. The telethon will also feature actors, television hosts, athletes, and singers who will be answering the phones. That will be an epic sight to see.

Make sure you tune in. I’m sure out of ALL these channels the telethon will air on, there is one that you can watch – whether you have cable or not: BC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, CMT, PBS, TNT, Showtime, Comedy Central, Bravo, E! Entertainment, National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, G4, CENTRIC, Current TV, Fuse, MLB Network, EPIX, Palladia, SoapNet, Style, Discovery Health, Planet Green, CNN en Español, HBO Latino and Canadian networks, including CBC Television, CTV, Global Television and MuchMusic.

Timbaland Presents: Shock Value 2

by Timbaland ft. every artist under the sun: When I realized that I missed the release date of Shock Value 2, I was uber excited to get the sequel of the original Shock Value. However, when I pressed play this morning I began to wonder what happened?!? I love Timbaland and his usual collaborations with Nelly Furtado, Justin TImberlake, and Keri Hilson but I don’t know what happened this time around. He has those usual suspects, but everybody else is just random and it sounds like Timbaland’s secret sauce has lost the ingredients.! The only memorable tracks are Carry Out and Say Something. The rest are wiggity wiggity whack! Timbaland + Miley Cirus? That says enough! It seems like Timbaland is chasing mainstream money instead of staying true to himself. I think Timbaland needs to call up Magoo or Missy to remind himself of what “Timbaland the artist” sounds like. Or, he can stick to producing and get off the tracks! Luckily, there is one track that I can play off the album. How ironic that it’s the second single – after the first didn’t do too good…

by Esmee: I think Twitter is amazing! I am such a supporter of the microblogging site as it allows people to form authentic relationships while sharing information instantaneously. Just now, I saw a tweet from @iamnovel who is a producer/songwriter/artist. His most recent update stated that he was in the studio with Justin Timberlake working on an Esmee Record and provided a link. The link took me to the video that I have included below. It features an emerging artist from the Netherlands named Esmee who was discovered on YouTube in August 2006. Since then, she has continued uploading covers to her YouTube channel and most recently she has been signed to Justin’s record label, Tennman Records. You can tell that she has grown so much from the original videos she uploaded. When you hear her voice, one cannot deny that she has talent. She is one that would contradict my theory that music is only half of what it used to be. She has released a couple of singles, such as Follow My Lead and Outta Here, and I need to get them! Her debut album is set to release on May 22. Keep her on your radar as I predict her to be one of the best new artists with a sultry sound.

Justin Timberlake for a few oh’s: Sometimes I see new videos but don’t post them because the song is considered “old” when the artist releases the track because I have had the cd for so long. However, to justify my actions for wanting to post this video, I am creating a new segment called “Videos” to house videos that I like and I think are hot! This happens to be my favorite song off Good Girl Gone Bad so it was inevitable that I would post the video. Doesn’t hurt that Justin Timberlake is in the video either. Just seems a little weird to me that Rihanna shows very little emotion in the video. I know the song is sad, but anything more than a poker face would have made me happy!

The Finale of TRL

Today marks a sad day in history. Well it was a glorious day because Barack had his first interview on 60 Minutes after being nominated President-elect. However, today was the finale of TRL. When I interned at MTV last summer, the rumor that the show was near its end date was buzzing around the offices, but I never thought the rumor was true. From running home after school to watching the top ten countdown during the summer, I grew up watching the show. I think TRL helped foster my love for music. All the hottest videos premiered on TRL before I saw them anywhere else. I would tape all of *N Sync and Britney Spear’s videos and learn the dances. I would also record videos and memorize the lyrics – clearly this was before lyric websites were established. As a child, I wanted to be VJ! That was the hottest job on the streets! If anybody asked me today, “If you could have one job in the world what would it be?” My response will continue to be, “A MTV VJ.”

I’m glad Carson Daly came back to host the finale. I will be completely honest and voice my opinion that TRL went downhill after Damien took Carson’s place. There are a lot of other celebrities that stopped by to participate in what a few have called “a high school reunion” as numerous young artists’ careers flourished after being on TRL. The show was opened by Beyonce and included performances by Fall Out Boy, Ludacris, Snoop, and Nelly, as well as appearances by Diddy, Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and the list goes on and on. Then, there were so many people outside, the streets looked like NYC on New Years Eve. The show will definitely be missed

If you didn’t get the opportunity to watch the finale, I suggest watching MTV over the next few days. You KNOW they will repeat this about 4 times over the time period.

Dead and Gone

by T.I. ft. Justin Timberlake: I hear a lot of people comparing T.I.’s Paper Trail to Weezy’s The Carter III. In my opinion, it will take a banging album to top TC3. T.I. has made an impact in the South, but he has never been considered the best rapper alive! Why I do feel that Lil’ Wayne is more commercial, that does not necessarily mean that he is a better rapper. This comparison is a tough one. I need to take the time and listen to Mr. Clifford Harris’ album and make my own conclusion. This appears to be the next track that has leaked, and I love it! I have always been a Justin Timberlake fan and my support for him will undeniably always be there. T.I’s verses are sick too! If anything, lyrics will be the determining factor of who has the better album. T.I. has grown as an artist and lyrically over the last few years and as a result he has expanded his fan base. I’m sure his first week’s sales will be watched closely and everyone will be comparing his sales to Mr. Dwayne Carter’s.

by Pussycat Dolls: When I first heard this song, I immediately thought the track sounded like one that Timbaland would produce. My assumption was correct! In my opinion, the song resembles Losing My Way by Justin Timberlake which was also produced by Timbaland. I think this is a great song as individuals in relationships expect so much from each other. A lot of times, people find themselves changing their true identity to please their mate. It is ideal to find someone who is equally yolked with you, spiritually and mentally. Part of that includes realizing that each party is not perfect, hence the chorus: “Sorry, I couldn’t wear your halo.”
