by Janelle Monáe: I was reminded of this extremely talented artist last night when I watched I Want to Work for Diddy finale. I previously heard her name, but never heard anything else about her or heard any of her music. Something caught my eye about her last night…not that she is a beautiful Black woman nor that she is on Diddy’s label nor that she wears a stylish sophisticated mohawk, but that she wears black and white oxford saddle shoes. I LOVE the shoes! Like, I want to go get some. I vaguely remember wearing some as a child, and I want some now! Trying to gain more knowledge about Janelle, I saw this recently released video and I LOVE this too! She has a unique magnetic attraction that will draw in all races and all types of music lovers. I view her as a young, female version of Andre 3k. Check out the video and watch for the moonwalk. She also does it moving forward (4:12)! Diddy struck gold with this one!
by Fonzworth Bentley ft. Andre 3000 & Kanye West: I love the concept of C.O.L.O.U.R.S. : Cool Outrageous Lovers of Uniquely Raw Style. This title fits perfectly for Fonzworth Bentley, Andre 3000 and Kanye West. These three men are definitely unique in their music, attire, and overall personality. I heard C.O.L.O.U.R.S. more than a year ago on Kanye’s mixtape that featured Bently with Pimp C & Lil Wayne. I liked that song, but I had never heard anything else about what I thought was a group until I saw this video a few weeks ago. C.O.L.O.U.R.S. is actually the title of Fonzworth Bentley’s album that does not have a scheduled release date. I really like this song and the video is purely comical. I like the old school flow with the synchronized dancing, but Kanye dancing takes the cake!
by Andre 3000 & Che Grand: There was a general consensus that The Love Below was better than Speakerboxxx. From someone who was born and raised in the South, Outkast represents success for an unconventional rap group. I know Andre 3k is on a-whole-nother level and I respect his flow and creativity…But, what is this? Even Lil Wayne stated that “You gotta stand out like Andre 3K,” but I think Andre might want to step back in on this track! Although, he is only on the chorus and not the whole song, I heard this song and thought WTF? I figured it out though…I don’t need to know Che Grand is. This track has Andre’s stamp of approval on it, which means that most of us just won’t understand.
by John Legend ft. Andre 3000: I got the ‘Green Light’ and we are a go! 2008 is a great year for music. It has been almost two years since John Legend’s album Once Again made its debut. His latest, Evolver, will release this September. This track ft. Andre 3000 is a slightly different sound for Legend. I only hope that the musical extension is purely due to his artistic expression, and not the label trying to reach a broader audience. For the first single, I dig it.
