Trey Songz is a Social Media Beast!

I’ve said for months now that Trey’s social media strategy is on point! Whoever provides his back end strategy and comes up with his non-traditional/traditional marketing tactics gets two thumbs up from me. Take yesterday for example:

First, Ludacris premiers his new single Sex Room featuring Trey Songz. The brilliance behind the release was the only place you could listen to the track was on Global Grind. I tried to YouTube the track and I found it. I tell you – by the time I listened to the track and copy/pasted the link to send it to my friend, UMG had pulled it down. When my friend told me she couldn’t listen to it, I thought she was joking. UMG must have had numerous detectives or insiders at YouTube monitoring to make sure people were not leaking the record too soon!

Instead, the track went viral instantly after Jo Jo (@YoungSimmons), the editor of Global Grind, sent a tweet that the track was available on Global Grind. Trey’s thousands of groupie girls went bananas and sent RTs informing their followers of the new single. I, personally, sent a tweet because I LOVE the track. It’s triple X-rated, but it’s the bomb diggity! I’ve had it on repeat for the last 24 hours.

Sex Room was a solo hit until…Trey premiered his video for Neighbors Know My Name, which is like his sixth edition of soft porn. The release of this video was brilliant too – although very weird. I’m not sure why, but the video premiered on Power 105.1 fm . I’ve never heard of that radio station before a day in my life and the website of the radio station had exclusive access to Trey’s video for a full day. Then, he uploaded the video on YouTube today. If you didn’t know the video premiered, there was no way you could miss it! On the homepage of YouTube.com, Neighbors Know My Name is the first video listed on the Videos Being Watched.

Trey is getting far more publicity than other artists I know, and the good thing is it’s all safe pub. You haven’t seen him robbing anybody, jumping anybody in the club, or engaging in illegal behavior. If you don’t like Trey, I feel sorry for you because 1. you aren’t the norm and 2. it doesn’t look like Trey is going anywhere!

Up Out My Face

by Mariah Carey ft. Nicki Minaj: I don’t even know what to say about this video besides it is a hot mess! I miss the old Mariah – you know…the one before Honey! Mariah has become a disappointment. And don’t even get me started on her assistant, Nick! Oh my bad. I meant her husband. I think back to Vision of Love, Emotions, Can’t Let Go, Anytime You Need a Friend, and I Give My All (just to name a few) and those are some PRICELESS jams. Today, I don’t even take the time to download her albums. Even when I can get them for free! I’m really speechless when it comes to Mariah today. Only thing I can say is watch and I hope you can make it thru the whole video. It honestly took me 3 times to make it thru. Be on the lookout for Nick, who was the director and included a special segment from Drum Line. Just whack!

On to the Next One

by Jay-Z: First, I must make it known that this video was uploaded on New Year’s Eve and has more than 2.2 million views! That is roughly 730k+ views a week. That’s bananas!

I liked this track off the Blueprint 3 album, but I think Jay has been hanging around Rihanna too long because this video is straight crazy! There have been numerous rumors and videos over the last few months that explain that Jay-Z worships the devil. I’m not one to assume something so immoral but this video sure does make you think twice…

Pole in My Basement

by Bow Wow: I haven’t written a blog post in what feels like a few days, but I just realized it has been almost a month. I constantly think about writing, but I am making it a point to free my mind of all the music knowledge I have gathered over the last few weeks. I usually like to post quality music, videos, and musical experiences, but I feel I need to broadcast this contradiction. Bow Wow has been promoting his new video Pole In My Basement for a few months and recently released the video. When I say I am so disappointed in this video. This video reminds me on how awful the portrayal of music is generally. The first time I watched the video, I was more interested in the video than the song. I read a viewer comment for the video on YouTube and I think it is extremely accurate. In summary, it stated that for years Bow Wow has maintained a solid fan base of females and this video was to expand into the male audience. His goal is all well and good, but at least have a talented chick in the video! Yes, the female is light skinned and has long hair. But, that is all she is good for. Not once do you see her “dance” on the pole. Matter of fact – she can’t dance. Please check her YouTube profile if you do not believe me. The song is a club banger as expected, but I am so over this video. #FAIL

Rehab

by Rihanna ft. Justin Timberlake for a few oh’s: Sometimes I see new videos but don’t post them because the song is considered “old” when the artist releases the track because I have had the cd for so long. However, to justify my actions for wanting to post this video, I am creating a new segment called “Videos” to house videos that I like and I think are hot! This happens to be my favorite song off Good Girl Gone Bad so it was inevitable that I would post the video. Doesn’t hurt that Justin Timberlake is in the video either. Just seems a little weird to me that Rihanna shows very little emotion in the video. I know the song is sad, but anything more than a poker face would have made me happy!
