by Eiffel 65: For some reason, this song has been in my head for the last two days. It is so random I love it! Or, maybe I love it because my favorite color is blue. After years of listening to this song and hearing the lyrics, today I finally realized what the group says and got further than “I’m blue da ba dee da ba die”. Now I can sing, “I have a blue house with a blue window. Blue is the color I thought I’d wear. Blue are the streets and all the trees are too. I have a girlfriend and she is so blue…” Hopefully, with help from my lyrics, you can reminisce and attempt to sing this throwback track.
Today marks a sad day in history. Well it was a glorious day because Barack had his first interview on 60 Minutes after being nominated President-elect. However, today was the finale of TRL. When I interned at MTV last summer, the rumor that the show was near its end date was buzzing around the offices, but I never thought the rumor was true. From running home after school to watching the top ten countdown during the summer, I grew up watching the show. I think TRL helped foster my love for music. All the hottest videos premiered on TRL before I saw them anywhere else.I would tape all of *N Sync and Britney Spear’s videos and learn the dances. I would also record videos and memorize the lyrics – clearly this was before lyric websites were established. As a child, I wanted to be VJ! That was the hottest job on the streets! If anybody asked me today, “If you could have one job in the world what would it be?” My response will continue to be, “A MTV VJ.”
I’m glad Carson Daly came back to host the finale. I will be completely honest and voice my opinion that TRL went downhill after Damien took Carson’s place. There are a lot of other celebrities that stopped by to participate in what a few have called “a high school reunion” as numerous young artists’ careers flourished after being on TRL. The show was opened by Beyonce and included performances by Fall Out Boy, Ludacris, Snoop, and Nelly, as well as appearances by Diddy, Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and the list goes on and on. Then, there were so many people outside, the streets looked like NYC on New Years Eve. The show will definitely be missed
If you didn’t get the opportunity to watch the finale, I suggest watching MTV over the next few days. You KNOW they will repeat this about 4 times over the time period.
I was just getting my nails done and heard two women next to me discussing the tragic incident that has taken place today. Reportedly, Jennifer Hudson’s mother and older brother died of fatal gunshot wounds. Everything was going so well in her life. She has had major success in the last few years: numerous movie appearances and a new album with over 300k sales. It is AMAZING how things in your life can change within a split second! Please pray for Jennifer and her family…
by Ryan Leslie ft. Cassie & Fabolous: Ryan Leslie is one of the best kept secrets! His self titled album is expected to release on October 21st and you can bet that I will have an advance copy of this! This particular song has been out for a while, but being that I LOVE Ryan Lelie’s production, I had to support him by posting this newly released video. Jaslene from America’s Next Top Model is featured in the video and makes like the video even more. Surprisingly, Cassie is not in the video. Not really sure of the reasoning behind her lack of appearance and I find it suspect because Cassie is not in the original version of the video either. Hmmm…After listening to the track a few times, I realized the track samples Michael Jackson’s I Can’t Help It. MJ has to be the most sampled artist in history!?!
I must reiterate how good this Raheem Devaughn album is! I know I missed the album release, but I will say again and again that this is a must-have cd. Even if you have to obtain a bootleg, get it! That’s how I got my copy My bestests, the name my best friends and I gave ourselves, and I love the most recent Jill Scott album, The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3. I am making a comparison for my bestests and anyone who loves Jill as an influential female neo-soul artist: Raheem is the male version of Jill Scott!?! Some compare him to Marvin Gaye, while I put him in a category of his own! I’m addicted to this cd.
I was leaving the grocery store as my ears were greeted by Kiss from a Rose by Seal. I began to think of the song and other connections to the song and the artist. My mind scattered from Heidi Klum, Seal’s wife, to Batman, the soundtrack that features the song. As my thoughts continued to scatter, I thought about other songs that were equally important as the movie in which they were made for. I remember Can I Get A… from the Rush Hour soundtrack introduced me to Jay-Z and Ja Rule, while no one would have taken time to see Wild Wild West if it hadn’t been for the same titled song by Will Smith. I’m attempting to think of the last noteworthy song that was on a movie soundtrack and my mind is drawing a blank…
I’m beyond excited to start this blog. Since I created the page yesterday and now, numerous people have asked me about new songs and what I am currently listening to. Hopefully, this will keep all of the musicfans informed about new releases and artist updates. There will also be a “Song of the Day” which will feature a song that I think is praiseworthy for the day. If you have specific requests for track or album reviews that are not posted, let me know…
