I came across this video last week and I was completely amazed. Jonah, the 5 year old – yes FIVE year old – drummer featured in this video has more skills than 20+ year olds who profess to have the same talent. I almost sent Diddy a tweet suggesting that he should add Jonah to his band vs. those two whack drummers he chose from Making His Band.
I don’t understand why Jonah’s parents have only chosen to teach him or have only allowed him to play rock songs. (Check out his covers on his branded YouTube Channel). Completely absurd to me…however, I do appreciate the rock songs more than Jonah playing pimp this, ho that, sex this up. When I think about it that way – it makes complete sense! If this lil rugrat is rockin this hard at 5 years old, I can’t wait to see the music he’s making by the time he’s 10 years old.
by Toni Basil: If you know me, you know that my favorite food is cheese! Not pork chops or french toast, but cheese. I could eat it plain or as a topping on lots of foods. As a result, my boyfriend named me a ‘rat’. I guess he thought he was being clever when he gave me the name “Minnie” as in mouse, being part of the rat family. I told him if I was Minnie then he would be Mickey. I started singing this song to him, and he had no idea what I was singing. At first, I thought he must have been totally out of the loop when this song came out, but I realized he was only 1 year old. Then again, I wasn’t even born! However, I know the lyrics. Especially those that are fitting for him: Oh Mickey, you so fine; You so fine, you blow my mind; Hey Mickey!
by The Spice Girls: I was just watching The Hills: Aftershow and they took it back! Way back! Back when Mel B. had curly hair!…On the Aftershow, they played this really old Spice Girls song, Goodbye. I was taken back to elementary school when my friends and I auditioned for the 5th grade talent show singing Wannabe. I used to be a huge Spice Girls fan. Since I didn’t go to their concerts, having their albums and seeing their movie was the best I could do! I need to have a jam session so I can listen to hits such as 2 Become 1, Say You’ll Be There, Too Much and the list goes on. I had a rough time deciding which video to post, but I think I did ok by choosing this video as it was the song that first exposed me to the group
by Savage Garden: This song popped into my head today and I can’t stop singing the chorus! This song takes me back to the late 90s on MTV. You know, when The Real World was actually good…somewhere around RR Seattle and RR Hawaii. Since then, the show has gone downhill. Not surprisingly, pop music has paralleled.
by Chairlift: In their iPod commercials, Apple always has catchy songs that will leave you singing the chorus days later. Viva la Vida by Coldplay used to have me jamming, and now Chairlift has me randomly singing Fooorrrrrr Yooouuuuuu all day!
by John Mayer: I heard this song last night at a work bowling event. Food + Drinks + Good People + Great Music = Fun Times!?! Ok, so the music wasn’t so “great” but it was good. Took me and a few work buddies back to our Hit Me Baby One More Time… years! One of the songs played was this one by John Mayer and I remembered the times when I used to play his albums repeatedly. I haven’t heard any new music from him in a while! Where is he HIDING? Or, maybe I need to go searching!
by Pussycat Dolls: When I first heard this song, I immediately thought the track sounded like one that Timbaland would produce. My assumption was correct! In my opinion, the song resembles Losing My Way by Justin Timberlake which was also produced by Timbaland. I think this is a great song as individuals in relationships expect so much from each other. A lot of times, people find themselves changing their true identity to please their mate. It is ideal to find someone who is equally yolked with you, spiritually and mentally. Part of that includes realizing that each party is not perfect, hence the chorus: “Sorry, I couldn’t wear your halo.”
by: Christina Aguilera: Christina and Britney are back? I feel 12 all over again! Sorry Britney, I know you won all the awards at the VMAs a few nights ago, but someone had to get paid off for you to really “win” all those awards. On another note, Christina Aguilera performed. Mommy-hood has done her well because chick is baddd! Her performance started out with a mixed version of Genie in a Bottle and I was so lost because I thought it was a new song. She then performed her new single Keeps Gettin’ Better that was intended to inform people of her greatest hits album that will release in November. This performance was hott! Christina killed it! Although, her appearance did surprise me. Besides the blond hair and the lip-synched vocals, I would not have known it was her. She had on a mask that could have been perceived to be anybody! If word gets out that Brooke Hogan lipsynched the song, I wouldn’t be surprised.
by The Jonas Brothers: I received a special request last week to make a post about The Jonas Brothers. I could not make a post then because while I had heard of the band, I had never listened to any songs by the 3 brothers. While watching the VMAs on MTV tonight, The Jonas Brothers performed this song. It is hilarious to me how girls go crazy over this band because I was one of those girls that went crazy over the many “boy bands” in the early 2000s. Looking at The Jonas Brothers, they represent the 2008 brown-haired version of Hanson. I believe this band gained much success by first being on the Disney Channel, by recording songs that do not have a touch of vulgarity, and most importantly attracting the younger demographic. This song is somewhat catchy and definitely attracts Generation Y/Z. It is refreshing to listen to music that lacks curse words and does not have any sexual references. I think I will get The Jonas Brothers album to see what all the hype is about and to listen to what could possibly be good music. We’ll see!
by The Eagles: I attended several summer camps when I was younger and one of my favorite camps I attended, my best friend at the time also went. We used to get dropped off on a Sunday afternoon and would not see our parents again until Friday! We slept in cabins in bunk beds and participated in fun activities all week. We would go canoeing and tubing, make lanyards, watch movies, and create skits. The camp also had a dance every Thursday night until about 1 or 2 in the morning. We were in elementary school and staying up this late. We thought we were doing something serious! These dances would be so much fun and they always ended with the same song: Hotel California by The Eagles. Now that the summer is ending, I think back to my earlier years and how much this song reminds me of fun in the summer. I never really want this feeling to end, so I will continue to play this song all year long.
