I know I can’t be the only one still in awe about Danity Kane breaking up. They are one of the few groups that were created on television that made it! More importantly, they were one of VERY few groups that were created on television that had great tunes. Both albums, Danity Kane and Welcome to the Dollhouse, went platinum and the group was continuously successful. I know Diddy was hurtin by the outcome of the group’s breakup and he let them know who was BOSS – not Rick Ross! He let all their success come to an end quick! In my opinion, Aubrey ruined it for everyone! This chick has posed for Playboy and Diddy peeped her intentions from the start. Everybody thought Mr. Combs was being mean and pointing fingers at Aubrey. Yea, he was. But that is only because she deserved it. This post isn’t to put Aubrey on blast, but to remind everyone to watch Making the Band on Thursdays @ 9pm as this is the last chance to see the remaining group members together as Diddy dismantles the group. Danity Kane was a great first album and Welcome to the Dollhouse accurately displayed the group’s maturity into an older sound. I was looking forward to a third album and I am hurt that the album will never come to form What are the girls of Danity Kane going to do now that they aren’t members of the group? Aubrey is in Playboy and Dawn is rumored to be signed as a solo artist. What about the rest???

This song popped into my head earlier as I was taking a shower and while singing I had a thought. It has been a while since I had one of these thoughts, but this is a good one! Groundbreaking Thought: We very seldom have an R&B duet that includes a male and a female. Twenty years ago there were duets such as Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, Rick James & Teena Marie, and Diana Ross & Lionel Richie. If Alicia Keys and John Legend were to make a song together the track would be a guaranteed hit. Similarly, if Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild sang a song together, the track would be a classic! It is such a shame that duets are not prevalent anymore. Then I realized, if “artists” now aren’t 100% by themselves, you definitely can not bring whack people calling themselves “artists” together to make musical history. I wonder if times will ever change…
I am beginning to think I have a brain disorder. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m sure I don’t think the way most people do. Take paintings for example. I never just look at a painting and take it for what it is. Rather, I always analyze the painting and question what the artist’s vision was. My thought process is somewhat similar for music, but amplified by 10. As I was listening to 5 Steps by Dru Hill this morning, I began to wonder what happened to the soulful, R&B male group. What happened to Boyz II Men, Dru Hill, and Jagged Edge? and I’ll even stoop so low and include B2K-sorry CC Today we only have Day 26, and I’m not saying their songs aren’t good. Some are, but I consider them to be “made” versus the members making themselves. I know Lou Pearlman is behind bars serving 25 years, but what does it take for someone to discover a group these days?

Groundbreaking Thought: Who are the women R&B artists that will represent the last decade? Not just one hit wonders, but women whose albums will be played numerous decades from now. This category of amazing, talented, vocalists include Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, old Toni Braxton, and old Mariah Carey…you know – the Toni before she had the altercation with Babyface and the Mariah before Honey. Thinking more recent, these artists include Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys. That is the extent of my list! I can’t imagine playing Bootylicious around the kids I have in the future. Even though I LOVE Rihanna, I won’t be playing Umbrella for the kids either. When will these artists start making music for the future and not just the present?
Someone brought this to my attention a few weeks ago and I thought it was purely comical. As The-Dream releases more songs, I realize it more often. Groundbreaking thought: EVERY song The-Dream is on and/or produces, he or the artist repeats what is said during the chorus similar to an echo. Take this new track by LL Cool J…”I’m your baby, your baby, your baby, your baby…” Ok, let’s take it back to Rihanna’s song “You can stand under my umbrella, ella, ella…” Then we have J. Holiday’s “I’m a put you to bed, bed, bed…” So either homeboy has a stuttering problem (which there is nothing wrong with because I sometimes do) or he needs to work on expanding his vocabulary.
